Iconic Olympic champion swimmer, Michael Phelps reflects on how reading the ‘Purpose Driven Life’ written by Pastor Rick Warren saved him from suicidal thoughts.
In the documentary titled ‘Evolution of Michael Phelps’, he reveals how friend and former NFL player Ray Lewis helped him overcome depression by encouraging him to seek rehab treatment and recommending the faith based book ‘Purpose Driven Life’.
In the documentary, the 22 gold medal holder talks about how unforgiveness towards his father who abandoned him at age 9 lead him to be consumed with bitterness.
He also went on to explain what after retiring from swimming after the 2012 London Olympics: a lack of purpose lead him to excessive partying and isolation from his family.
Michael Phelps is now restored and will compete in his 5th Olympic games this summer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
