In today’s society, I believe Christians should seek financial freedom and influence for several reasons, which I will explain in this article. First and foremost, it’s important to clarify that in God’s eyes, our accomplishments are not the requirements for heaven. What matters is giving your life to Christ and being obedient to His teachings. When I refer to being “rich and successful,” I am speaking specifically about success within the marketplace.
I believe that anyone in good health, regardless of age, race, gender or colour, can achieve financial success. This belief is scriptural, as seen in Deuteronomy 8:18, “But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.” The power and creativity lie within you, as stated in Genesis 1:26, “Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness.” You just need to UNLEASH it.
To tap into the potential power within you, you first need a reason to access it. Here are five reasons why every Christian should prioritize becoming successful in their field and achieving financial freedom.
1. People Will Pay Attention to What You Have to Say
Proverbs 19:4 reads, “Wealth attracts many friends, but even the closest friend of the poor person deserts them.” This verse confirms that if you want to be taken seriously or listened to, you need to be a person of substance. In our world, people are more likely to listen to you if you have means, because wealth often signifies that you have done something right. Conversely, a lack of wealth may lead others to assume you have done something wrong for a currency to retain its value, it must be relatively scarce. If everyone were wealthy, the value of money would diminish. This scarcity is why people often respect those who possess wealth.
2. Glorify God
Becoming successful in your field is a way to glorify God by manifesting your God-given ability. Everyone admires individuals who display remarkable talents, whether they’re athletes, inventors, or instrumentalists. This admiration stems from the reminder that we all have been blessed with talents; the difference lies in whether we choose to use them. Failing to use the talents and resources God has placed within you is a waste and can be perceived as a lack of faith in your God-given ability. Believers need to find their potential on the world stage and give glory to God. This concept inspired me to write the book Successful Christians to encourage people to achieve great things in their spheres of influence, thereby honouring the divine source of your abilities.
3. You Can Serve God More
Financial struggles and the inability to pay bills often lead to anxiety and frustration. Many believers find themselves working multiple jobs just to keep up with their financial obligations, leaving little time for prayer or thinking about expanding God’s Kingdom. In contrast, financial security provides a foundation that allows you to focus more on worshiping God. The concept of not becoming a slave to money, but instead making money your slave, is explained in the ‘Master of Money’ audio series.
4. Financially Blessing
Many believers have the heart to be generous and bless others, but they often lack the means to do so. Wealth enables you to impact lives beyond your immediate family, reaching from your local community to even across nations. History shows that many successful individuals have used their resources to establish charities and philanthropic endeavors, advancing society and furthering Kingdom purposes. This is why pursuing financial success is valuable. Financial resources can fund initiatives you care about, whether it’s supporting projects against trafficking, aiding widows and orphans, or helping persecuted Christians worldwide. As 2 Corinthians 9:11 states, “You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
5. Peace of Mind
Financial security offers a profound sense of peace. Imagine having the means to provide for your family without the constant worry of covering daily expenses or unexpected bills. While money isn’t everything—it can’t buy salvation, health, or other essential aspects of life—its role in providing stability is undeniable. Ecclesiastes 7:12 aptly illustrates this balance: “Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it.” This verse highlights that while financial resources offer protection and comfort, true preservation comes from wisdom and knowledge.
These are just a few reasons why I believe every believer should aim to be rich and successful.
