    In 1996, the Ku Klux Klan was holding a meeting near the University of Michigan, and hundreds of people came out to protest. That’s when 18-year-old student Keshia Thomas made headlines. She used her body as a human shield to protect a man wearing a Confederate flag T-shirt as he was being physically attacked by protesters.
